Healthy Recipes
By using healthy recipes utilizing any freshly grown local produce; preferably organic, pesticide free; where possible, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Use the least amount of salt and sugar; where possible eliminate both, for your heart’s sake. Most fruits do not need sugar added, and most vegetables do not need salt.
Learn to eat less sweets and use Splenda, a natural sugar replacement as often as possible in healthy recipes, in order to keep sugar intake lower, and sea salt in place of regular table salt, to keep our intake of processed iodized salt. Packaged and canned products are usually heavily salted or sugared and it is not necessary – our bodies just do not need it. Choose light and low sugared and salted canned foods if you must.
Learn to read labels of packaged or processed foods, often the “healthy nutritious” part of the food has been taken out of the actual food by the time it reaches our mouths – home made healthy grown food, used in healthy recipes tastes much better than processed foods. It has been recommended that we use non-hydrogenated oils in our foods and stay away from as much animal fat as possible.
Using healthy meat in recipes means we use grain fed, pesticide free organic meats. It may cost a little more, and you may have to order ahead of date required (ie. organically fed – free range birds and free range organically fed cows). It is highly recommended for your good health as these animals will not have been fed anti-biotics, which normally would pass through the meat and into our bloodstreams as we eat the meat; thereby enabling our systems to build up anti-immunities to these drugs. The more we eat those antibiotic filled meats, the more anti-biotics become immune to new and old diseases. Stay with organic meats!!
Learning to eat healthfully by using foods that are pesticide free, organically fresh, locally grown, and not genetically altered, will show you not only the benefits of a healthy body, but a healthy mind.
Finally, learning to use healthful foods to benefit our healthy recipes, choose to using these recipes as a canvas and you be the painter. Healthful foods need not be boring or complicated or take ages to make. Using a healthful recipe is a creation of art, and especially so, when you learn the benefits of and what constitutes healthy eating.
Healthy Salad Recipes
The only time that a person may run into trouble is at Salad Bars. Many offer a wide variety of greens, fresh vegetables, fruits; certainly, consumer may create his own salad, BUT, the problem arises when the temptation of too many foods offered to eat; foods are often over-exposed to flies and other disease carrying pests; and there is a risk of food poisoning from salad items allowed to stand at room temperatures for more than an hour or two. I say stay away from salad bars. The dressings are high in calories and one tends to use much to much dressing. What is our option? Eat a home-made healthy salad recipe.
Home made healthy salad recipes are so much better; we can choose to buy organic lettuces, and salad ingredients. If we use eggs, once again, range free organic eggs. Fresh fruit salads, once again do your best in purchasing local healthily grown organic fruits. A person will find they use less dressing than usual if the salad tastes good! And we can make our own dressings, vinaigrette’s, using fresh herbs and spices and a good extra-virgin olive oil.
The healthiest salad is likely one with dark green lettuce leaves, well washed and patted dry and place in the refrigerator until ready to make the actual salad, as this little secret will give you crispy lettuce. Break into smaller chunks when ready to use. Add remainder of ingredients. Just before serving,
pour your dressing (vinaigrette) onto the salad and toss gently until lettuce leaves and salad is covered. Serve your salad . Always use an attractive salad bowl, as it makes the food more appetizing.
Should you want your healthy salad recipe to be the main course, then there are a multitude of healthy additions you can add to the salad. Nuts, grains, almonds slices, sunflower seeds unsalted, artichoke, avocados, parsley, In some healthy salad recipes, deli meat is added, cut into small pieces, or even chicken pieces – the healthy salad recipe is at your fingertips!
Five Easy, Healthy Holiday Tips
Tip #1:Take 2 steps to start your day right.
Step One: Eat breakfast. You see, most people skip breakfast on Turkey day in order to ’save room’ for the feast – maybe you have done this yourself. When you eat a healthy breakfast that is high in both fiber and protein two great things happen.
- Your metabolism is started early in the day, thus catapulting you into full fledged calorie burning mode. This will come in handy later in the day.
- You won’t be famished when you sit down for dinner, so you will have less room to binge. (This means fewer calories land on your waist.)
Step Two: Exercise for 30-60 minutes. I know exercise is the last thing on your mind on a busy holiday, however it is worth your effort. You will negate some of the extra holiday calories and your metabolism will climb even higher.
Tip #2: Lighten the menu.
If you are the lucky one in control of the menu, that makes it easier. As chef you can make a few modifications to the meal that will drastically reduce the fat and calorie intake of each guest. Try the following to lighten your meal:
Use nonfat yogurt or sour cream in place of heavy cream-based dips and dressings.
- Replace traditional stuffing with an assortment of chopped vegetables. Fill your turkey with mushrooms, eggplant, onions and celery. Or replace half of your traditional stuffing with chopped vegetables.
- Flavor your mashed potatoes with roasted garlic instead of butter. Or serve baked sweet potatoes instead of butter laden mashed potatoes.
- Roast vegetables without oil – use cooking spray instead and toss them with dill.
- Use unsweetened apple sauce or pureed plums instead of butter or oil in dessert recipes.
- Put out an assortment of fruit for dessert instead of pies.
- Make the recipe for Low Fat Thanksgiving Green Bean Casserole below.
Tip #3: Use strategy.
Traditional Thanksgiving food items weren’t all created equal – nutritionally that is. Roasted white turkey meat (without skin) is a great source of lean protein. Vegetable dishes (without added fats) are also very healthy. On the other hand, buttery mashed potatoes, white bread rolls, cream based dishes, and heavy gravy are all packed with fat and calories. Fill your stomach with the healthy items first – white turkey meat and plenty of vegetables. Then simply ’sample’ the less healthy items in small portions. This is so easy to do, save you lots of extra calories, and you don’t have to feel like you are denying yourself, either.
Tip #4: Pace yourself.
Most people get into trouble at Thanksgiving dinner by eating full speed ahead until they finally realize that they are full (after their second and third helping). The trouble with this method is the lag time in communication between your stomach and brain. In reality, you probably satisfied your hunger with your first plate of food, but your stomach takes a while to get that message to your brain. And during that lag time you took the opportunity to go for your second and third plate of food. This year sit calmly in your chair after that first plate and wait at least 20 minutes before getting seconds. You will be surprised to find that the thought of more food doesn’t sound good anymore – and you will have saved yourself unnecessary weight gain.
Tip #5: Get Support to Keep Off the Weight
Want to make this holiday season extra special? Why not start your very own phone coaching program with a weight loss coach right now! Together you will keep the holiday pounds away. Hiring a coach is different than recruiting a friend to diet with, or asking your spouse to help. Truth be told, it’s doubtful either one of these “supports” are going to hold up when put to the test. If your spouse is anything like mine, he’s no help at all. I’d get, “It’s a party, enjoy yourself!” Or, “It’s Christmas, have what you want.” And a diet buddy is probably no better. When it comes down to it, they aren’t going to jeopardize your friendship over a diet failure.
Having a happy holiday season does not have to mean putting on excess weight. Using these simple, easy strategies can help you avoid being one of those people who end up 10 pounds heavier by New Year’s. I hope these five tips keep you fit and healthy this holiday season.

WHEN COOKING, REMEMBER THE F WORD!
In December 2007, a special on BBC America’s ‘Chef Gordon Ramsay’s: The F Word’ was featured about the notion of eating Christmas dinner every night. The special highlighted the points that if families made a home cooked meal every night for dinner the results would be a healthier diet (since everything is cooked from scratch), less money spent on eating out, and a tighter family bond from eating at the table together. Clearly, not everyone has the time or energy to cook an entire Christmas dinner every night, however with a little planning and resourcefulness it can be very easy to cook at home more often. Online and in print, Weight Watchers has published thousands of recipes that are not only healthy and tasty, but also cost-effective and fast. Most Weight Watchers meals can be prepared and cooked in less than 30 minutes and use common, inexpensive ingredients.
SO MANY CHOICES…SO LITTLE TIME
Planning a home cooked meal every day can be a daunting task for most people, however it really doesn’t need to be. Many Weight Watchers recipes incorporate several of the same ingredients such as Orange Balsamic Chicken, Crusty Chicken Pot Pie, and Italian Stuffed Chicken. Choosing recipes that are similar then saves you time and money at the grocery store since you do not need to remember to buy many extra ingredients that you wouldn’t normally use every day. Weight Watchers recipes also teach you how to use healthier ingredients in every day life, such as olive oil instead of butter, grains instead of starches, and leaner proteins like chicken, turkey and fish instead of red meats. The best part of Weight Watchers recipes is that most of them are available for free online. Clearly, Weight Watchers has mastered the art of combining healthy living with simplicity.
You might be thinking anything classified as a diet recipe is going to be bland, unsatisfying, leaving you hungry and missing out on your favorite foods. Not a chance! Weight Watchers has recipes in every category imaginable, like Asian or Mexican , breads, soups, Crock Pot dinners, grilled, salads and of course dessert.
Healthy Chicken Recipes
What I like about healthy chicken recipes is that chicken meat is so versatile to cook with and there are just a multitude of ways that
chicken may be used in recipes.
Although great care must be taken when handling chicken, using rubber gloves and disinfecting any area the chicken may have touched
during preparation with bleach, it has to be one of the tastiest, containing low fat once skin is removed, and its main function is to
provide protein. may be roasted, fried, put in stir fry recipes, casseroles, eaten with almost anything and is low cal once the
skin has been removed.
My favorite is chicken breasts, bones removed, easy to cook with Sharwood’s Tandori Butter Sauce and a multitude of healthy
vegetables, apples, raisins, potatoes, red peppers, Spanish onions. It is an amazing Curried Sauce that just blends with the chicken
amazingly well. This can be done in a crock pot by cooking the ahead in their juice, and one bay leaf and 1 tbsp of olive oil. When are cooked, add Tandori Butter Sauce and your red peppers, potatoes chopped in cubes and Spanish onions and
raisins and apples. Wow – this is my favorite healthy chicken recipe.
Aside from being lower in saturated fats then red meat, it is also a good source of Vitamin A, the B Vitamins and minerals. Remember
when buying chicken to check for bruises, and very yellow skin – these birds have actually been fed colorants to make them look fat
healthy. The best chicken for you to buy for healthy chicken recipes, is organically fed and range free grown. No pesticides and an
proper anti-biotic-free fed bird. These can often be purchased at your favorite local meat shop, where you should know the practices of
the butcher and grower etc.
Man birds are killed at 5 weeks to 5 months of age after being fed to fatten and given antibiotics in their foods. Much better than
shopping at a department store for your precious white bird meat.
All poultry must be washed prior to cooking and your hands washed frequently during preparation as mentioned previously, but safety at
all costs is important cooking healthy chicken recipes. Any knives, cutting boards, plates must also be bleached.
Chicken is cooked when leg joints move easily, or when meat pulls apart gently with a fork, when in casserole or crock pot. Note for
healthy chicken recipes, remove skin prior to cooking and never refrigerate a stuffed chicken before cooking it stuffed poultry should
be cooked at 325 F – lower temp will allow bacteria to multiply and higher temps may cook the outside but not the stuffing on the
inside.
Once Healthy Chicken Recipe is cooked, savor the flavor. It is one of the better organically fed and grown tastes to experience.
Quick and Easy Heart Healthy Recipes
When you have a history of heart disease in your family, it is important to take good care of your heart. Exercise is a main part of
taking good care of your body, including your heart. Eating is important as well. But sometimes it seems like finding tasty food that is
good for you can be difficult. And besides, who has time to prepare it? You do! Here are two delicious recipes that can get you started
on the road to healthful and tasteful eating for your heart. And they’re easy to make!
Baked Dijon Chicken (4 servings)
Ingredients:
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast (or you can use turkey), removed of visible fat
2 Tbl. lemon or lime juice
1 Tbl. course-grained or Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. minced garlic (from a bottle works nicely)
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Rinse the chicken and pat it dry and arrange it in a glass baking dish.
Using a small bowl, stir together all the remaining ingredients and spread over the top of the chicken. Do this piece by piece.
Bake uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes. The chicken should be tender and no longer pink.
Rosemary Turkey With Mushrooms (4 servings)
This is a treat that you can serve company. It is an elegant and delicious dish.
Ingredients:
1 pound turkey breast tenderloin slices
1/2 c. chicken broth, low sodium
1/8 tsp. each black pepper and salt
1 Tbl. cornstarch
2 Tbl. balsamic vinegar
8 oz. chanterelle or button mushrooms; these should be cleaned, trimmed, and sliced
1/4 c. shopped onions or shallots
1 tsp. fresh rosemary or 1/4 tsp. dried rosemary
Rinse and pat dry turkey and set aside.
Use a small bowl to stir together broth, salt and pepper, and cornstarch. Set this aside.
Use vegetable oil cooking spray to coat a large skillet and place it over medium-high heat.
Add half the turkey to the hot skillet and cook about two minutes on each side. The turkey should be tender and no longer pink. Set
aside and do the same to the other half of the turkey. Remove the skillet from the heat, and keep the turkey warm.
Add the vinegar and rosemary to the skillet. Scrap up all of the brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Then, put the skillet back on
the heat and use it to cook the mushrooms and onions (or shallots). It should take about five minutes for the mushrooms to become
tender.
Stir in the set aside broth mixture. It will take about three minutes for it to become a sauce, thickened and bubbly. Cook for two more
minutes after that, stirring constantly. This sauce is served with the turkey. For an elegant tough, the turkey can be served on a bed
of fresh rosemary.
Once you know what you can do to enjoy healthful meals without sacrificing the flavor, you can take better care of your body and of your
heart. And that is a delicious proposition.

Understanding Healthy Recipes
There are lots of natural food stores opening up in different part of the world specializing in purely natural foods, these are becoming quite popular. People have even written books on natural foods and what are the advantages and where you can purchase them and so on. It is up to the individual to decide what sort of recipes they would like to use and what is the purpose of using them.
Organic foods are the healthiest foods and any food made from mostly organic food items would most likely be considered a healthy recipe. You see most foods people eat especially fast foods, which everyone loves, are not healthy for us because they contain too many carbohydrates and a lot of artificial products. That is why it is important to eat as many healthy foods as possible, it makes you feel healthier and it is important to maintain a good balanced diet. A good place you would find ingredients for all your healthy recipes is at an organic food store. Not all foods are created equally, when you buy fruits, vegetables and meats from large scale businesses, it is usually not as healthy as you would think because most large companies put many chemicals into their products to make the items grow faster and bigger.
Food recipes are not the only types of healthy recipes, some people would also consider exercise as a healthy type of recipe for the body while again others may use reading as a healthy recipe for the brain. You can find lots of healthy recipes on the internet, but another place you may find some good healthy recipes are in an organic food store. These stores are eager to promote their products and would be more than willing to assist you in making the right decision on what to eat in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In a nut shell healthy recipes are simply just recipes that are good for you.
